Beautiful Budapest - Photo by me ;) |
I went to Budapest in April, what a beautiful place! I fell in love with the city. So beautiful, so much history going on, and the fooooooddddd, amazing.
Whist there, a couple of times we had street food, and 2x at least the street food was Goulash, cause imagine if not, that's right?
Also, I brought the spices back home, to make it here.
So here is a traditional recipe for Hungarian Goulash:
For 4 people ( I changed the quantities, and adjusted...as we do hehehe)
Ingredients
400 g shin of beef (or chuck beef)
2 Spanish onions
2 tbsp oil
pinch of salt, pepper, caraway seeds
1 teaspoon paprika {Hungarian spicy, not sweet} or more...
5 cloves of garlic
1 carrot
1 parsnip
¼ celerac
1 bunch of celeriac leaves
500 g of potatoes
1 Capsicum
1 tomato
- First prepare the ingredients: Cut the meat into small cubes, finely chop the onion and garlic as well as chop de vegetables.
- Fry the onion in hot oil until it becomes transparent. Sprinkle with paprika and add a little water.
- Add the meat, and salt, pepper, garlic, and caraway seed to taste.
- once starts getting brown, add the capsicum and tomato on top, (and probably a tad bit more water).
- Simmer for an hour, and then add the vegetables and potatoes.
- As soon as the potatoes are tender the dish is ready to serve.
