Exciting times ahead, you are having a baby!
Well, I am for sure very soon (I'm 32 weeks) and its my second baby. :)
The nesting hormones already kicked out, so I've started to wash all the clothes for my little girl (Yes, it is a girl) and now I'm thinking about starting the Hospital Bag.
Every single first time mum always have this question: What do I need to take to Hospital? The info varies from hospital to hospital (Some give you nappies, some don't, etc) but the basics are the same so I thought I would share some information here :) Once you read through this list, you should have an idea of what you will need and adjust to your own needs.
So first, for Labour:
After Labour:
Hope you have a safe labour.

That's the bag I will use, but in Pink. It was a gift from a dear friend. |
So first, for Labour:
- Hospital card / paper work
- Snacks and drinks, if you are having a natural labour and you might get hungry. Lollies are always good.
- Your Camera or Phone (or both), and charger for it.
- Havaianas
- Your planned birthing clothes (might not happen)
- Massage oil (Maybe)
- stress ball (maybe)
After Labour:
- Comfy undies, especially cause you might end up with a C-section, you never know. (Maybe was even planed). I advise to buy cheapies undies or disposable, one size bigger, and just chuck them as they get dirty / stained in the first days, if you can afford to do that.
- Maternity Pads
- Comfy clothes and nice clothes for photos
- PJ's
- toiletries (you will want your nice shampoo, soap, even nice toilet paper depending on your hospital)
- Hair brush, Hair bands etc.
- Nice earrings or things that make you feel better. even Make up, believe me you will want it.
- Maternity bras
- Bras Pads - you might even be using them already to avoid milk leakage.
- Ear plugs might be of use if your hospital has a nursery that will take the baby overnight.
- You might want your own towel, depending how fussy you are. I didn't because I didn't want to be concerned about blood stains.
- Socks (Specially if Winter)
For bub:
- Nice go home clothes
- Clothes / singlets / Wraps (check with your hospital)
- Nappies (in case not provided)
- wipes (in case not provided)
- Beanies
- Mittens
- Socks
- Dummies
- Bottles (If that's your thing)
Hope you have a safe labour.
